Design for a Façade (Competition by Invitation)
SHOPPING MALL
Mexico City

An invitation-only competition for remodeling a façade led to a plan to revitalize the image of a major Mexican shopping mall. Precast concrete pieces were used to create a series of openings out of molded bands. The infrastructure also works together with the mall’s interior design, as the twisting bands become furniture, part of the gardens, and even the ceiling. With this, the winning proposal, the façade is redefined to become much more than a mere division between interior and exterior space.

A façade can act as both a structure’s shell and as part of its interior design. This is the underlying concept of the renovation of this shopping mall.
